About Aristotle

Aristotle studied under Plato in Athens for twenty years, tutored the young Alexander the Great, and founded his own school, the Lyceum. He wrote on almost everything: logic, ethics, politics, biology, physics, poetry and rhetoric, and his works shaped Western and Islamic thought for two thousand years.

His surviving writings are mostly lecture notes, compressed and technical, so many smooth, modern-sounding “Aristotle quotes” are actually later summaries of his ideas by other writers.
