About Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson spent most of her life in her family home in Amherst, Massachusetts, and wrote nearly 1,800 poems, fewer than a dozen of which were published while she was alive.

Her sister found the poems after her death, and editors published them from 1890 onward, at first with her dashes and capital letters smoothed out. Modern editions restore her original punctuation.
