About Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong was an American naval aviator, test pilot and astronaut. On July 20, 1969, as commander of Apollo 11, he became the first person to walk on the Moon, followed shortly by Buzz Aldrin, while Michael Collins orbited above in the command module.

Armstrong was famously private and spoke little about himself after his return. He later taught aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Because NASA photographs are works of the U.S. government, the images of his mission are in the public domain.
