About Robert Browning

Robert Browning was a Victorian poet best known for his dramatic monologues, poems spoken by a single character, such as “My Last Duchess.” In 1846 he secretly married the poet Elizabeth Barrett and they lived in Italy until her death in 1861. Fame came to him late, in his fifties.
